Shannon M., Search & Rescue Dispatcher

“I’m looking to adapt a healthier lifestyle overall, and I think that being able to efficiently track the nutrition within my meals is a great first step. I’ve never been able to do that.”

Nicole G., Flight Attendant

“Properly getting the nutrients that my body needs is difficult while working long hours. A lot of the meals don’t really fit my macros either. My protein requirement differs from others.”

Constraints

Working and expanding on the existing design system of a small company.

Time—I was given an 80-hour total timeframe to focus on the meal-searching aspect rather than any goal-setting screens.

Business Impacts

The redesign expands the marketability of JU IT by attracting a new subgroup of customers (those who are health-conscious).

It also provides a competitive advantage over other meal-kit services that focus solely on order placement.

INTRODUCTION

JU IT is a German-based meal-kit delivery service that offers convenient meals without compromising taste or nutritional value.

The Problem

Health-conscious users are unable to efficiently set and track nutritional goals in JU IT.

This process needs to be streamlined to enable users to make more informed meal choices.

The Goal

Empower health-conscious users with goal-based meal setting and refined searching.

I sought to develop a system that would streamline achieving nutritional goals by making intentional the meal-viewing layout.

Impact and Success Metrics

What would success look like?

Business: Attract a new subgroup of customers who seek to set and order goal-oriented meals.

User: Personalize the experience of ordering meals through goal-setting while promoting more informed meal-choices.

RESEARCH

I virtually interviewed 5 adults who regularly use(d) meal-kit delivery services in order to gauge their experiences with getting nutritionally nourishing meals

User Pain Points

Andrew C., Healthcare Worker

“I have no way of conveniently tracking the nutrients of what I eat whenever I use a meal-delivery service. I want something that is simple and quick.”

There is a need for a more personalized meal selection, given that everybody has different nutritional needs.

Users are frustrated and unable to conveniently track their nutritional progress within a meal-kit platform.

Some common themes came up during my interviews:

The Takeaway

There is a strong need for health-conscious users to be able to conveniently set nutritional goals while also being able to search for meals that align with their individual goals.
